Where to Watch New Hindi Movies on OTT in India

No single app has every new Hindi film. Netflix, Prime Video and JioHotstar take most of the big releases, while ZEE5 and SonyLIV carry a steady stream of their own. Hindi films usually wait about eight weeks after opening in cinemas before they reach streaming, which is longer than many southern films.

The short version

  • โ€ขNo one service has all the new Hindi films. Which app gets a film is decided film by film.
  • โ€ขHindi films usually reach streaming about eight weeks after the cinema release. The big multiplex chains are reported to expect that gap.
  • โ€ขTelugu films are reported to come faster, in about three to four weeks.
  • โ€ขJioHotstar now includes what used to be JioCinema, so there is no separate JioCinema app to check.
  • โ€ขA list ordered by popularity is not a list of the best films. Check the critics before you pick.

Which apps carry Hindi films

Five services matter. Hindi has the widest coverage of any Indian language, which also means the most movement between apps.

Netflix
Takes a share of the big new Hindi releases, and often has a large back catalogue of earlier ones.
Prime Video
The other main buyer of major Hindi films.
JioHotstar
Carries Star and Disney content and many Hindi films. It now includes JioCinema, so older JioCinema films live here.
ZEE5
Run by the Zee TV group. Worth checking for films and shows linked to Zee.
SonyLIV
Run by the Sony TV group. A useful second look when a film is missing from the big three.

Why Hindi films take longer to reach streaming

Hindi films usually reach streaming about eight weeks after they open in cinemas. That is longer than many southern films. A Telugu360 summary of industry trends puts Telugu films at around three to four weeks.

The reason is the multiplex chains. The Week reported in October 2026 that major national chains in North India generally follow an eight-week theatrical window for Hindi films, which is reported to be meant to protect their ticket sales. That is a common practice, not a published rule, and exceptions happen.

The same report described a dispute over Jailer 2, whose producers were said to have a streaming deal that starts after only four weeks. It said the Hindi version might not be shown at the biggest chains because of that. Almost all of this was reported rather than confirmed, so treat it as an example of how seriously the gap is taken, not as settled fact.

The practical point is simple. If a Hindi film opened a month ago and is on no app yet, nothing is wrong. It is probably still in cinemas, and it will usually arrive around week eight.

How to pick a good one

Our Hindi list is ordered by how popular each title is right now. That is not the same as how good it is, and it is not hand-picked, so a very popular film can sit above a better one.

Before you press play, check what critics said. Our reviews bring together the published ratings from named outlets and link to each one, so you can see where critics agree and where they split.

If you are choosing between two films on the same app, the film with the narrower spread of ratings is usually the safer pick. A film that critics rate between 2 and 5 is a gamble. One they rate between 3 and 4 is not.

Why a film moves between apps

Services mostly rent films rather than own them. The right to stream is sold for a fixed term, usually one to three years, for named countries only.

When the term ends the film leaves, and a rival that bid for the next window picks it up. Nothing is broken and nobody announces it.

India is sold separately from other countries. A film on Netflix for a friend abroad can honestly be missing from Netflix here.

Finding one film quickly

Opening five apps one by one is the slow way, and the answer changes next month. Search the title once on a site that checks all of them for India.

This site does that: type the name and it tells you which Indian service has it. If it comes back with nothing, that is a real answer. The film has not reached legal streaming in India yet.

Common questions

Which app has the most new Hindi movies?

None of them has all of them. Netflix, Prime Video and JioHotstar take most of the big new releases between them, and ZEE5 and SonyLIV carry their own. Which app gets a particular film is sold film by film.

How long after release does a Hindi movie come to OTT?

Usually about eight weeks after the cinema release. The big multiplex chains are reported to expect that gap. Smaller films and direct-to-streaming films can arrive sooner.

Why do Hindi movies take longer to reach OTT than Telugu movies?

Because of how the cinema chains work. Major chains in North India are reported to follow an eight-week window for Hindi films, while industry reports put Telugu films at around three to four weeks. These are reports of common practice, not published rules.

Is JioCinema still available?

JioCinema has been merged into JioHotstar, so its films and shows are now found there. There is no separate JioCinema app to check for new films.

Where can I watch new Hindi movies for free?

A brand new Hindi release is not free anywhere legal. It sits behind a subscription or a rental. Several services sell cheaper mobile-only plans, and JioHotstar comes bundled with some Jio plans. Check the app for current prices.

How do I find the best Hindi movies on OTT right now?

Start with our Hindi list, which is ordered by popularity, then check the critics. Popular does not mean good, so read the published ratings for anything you are unsure about.
