Sardar 2 opens in cinemas on 10 September 2026. It is the sequel to Sardar (2022), with P. S. Mithran returning to direct and Karthi returning in a dual role.

This page is up before release so the facts are in one place โ€” cast, crew, runtime and where it will stream. We do not have a score yet, because no critic has published one yet. We will read every review as it appears and add our consensus rating on release day.

Where to watch

In cinemas from 10 September 2026. Streaming rights are with Amazon Prime Video, so it should reach OTT roughly four to eight weeks after release. No date has been announced yet. We will update this line the moment one is.

What it is about

The first film followed Chandra Bose, a police officer whose father turned out to be a long-buried undercover spy. That film ran on the gap between the two men and on a plot about contaminated consumer products.

The sequel keeps the same shape. Karthi plays two roles again, and the film is once more built around espionage rather than straightforward police work.

S. J. Suryah joins as the antagonist, a character called Black Dagger. On paper that is the most interesting piece of casting here โ€” he has spent the last few years playing exactly this kind of oversized, watchable villain.

What to look out for

Facts about the film, not predictions about whether it is any good.

A long film
Just under three hours. The first film was already long, and this one is longer.
Karthi in two roles
The dual-role structure that carried the first film returns rather than being dropped.
S. J. Suryah as the villain
Cast as Black Dagger. His recent run of antagonist roles has generally been the best-received part of the films he is in.
A returning crew
George C. Williams on camera and Sam C. S. on music, both continuing from the first film.
A message somewhere
Mithran builds his films around a social issue. Expect one, and expect it to be stated plainly.

๐Ÿ‘ Likely for you if

  • โ€ขAnyone who liked Sardar (2022) โ€” the crew and the structure carry over
  • โ€ขKarthi fans, particularly for the dual role
  • โ€ขS. J. Suryah in villain mode
  • โ€ขBig-screen Tamil spy action rather than a quiet thriller

๐Ÿ‘Ž Probably not if

  • โ€ขYou have not seen the first film โ€” a fair amount is likely to carry over
  • โ€ขA 179-minute runtime is more than you want to sit through
  • โ€ขYou prefer grounded thrillers to large-scale action
