Meesaya Murukku 2 releases on Sep 25, 2026. We only score a film once critics have actually published, so there is no rating on this page today. We read every review as it appears and add our consensus score here on release day.

Meesaya Murukku 2 opens in cinemas on 25 September 2026. Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi directs, composes the music and plays the lead, as he did on the first film.

The original in 2017 was a semi-autobiographical story about starting his band. This one moves to the 1980s and follows a gaana singer taking on classical musicians, so it is a change of setting rather than a straight continuation.

There is no score on this page yet, because no critic has published one. We read every review as it appears and add our consensus rating on release day.

Where to watch

In cinemas from 25 September 2026. No streaming service has been announced yet. We will update this line as soon as one is.

What it is about

The film is set in the 1980s and centres on a gaana singer who challenges classical musicians.

Gaana is a Chennai street music form, historically working class and long treated as lesser than classical Carnatic music. A story built on that clash has something real underneath it.

The first film was a semi-biopic about Aadhi forming Hip Hop Tamizha. This is a different story in the same spirit rather than a direct sequel.

What to look out for

Facts about the film, not predictions about whether it is any good.

One person doing three jobs
Aadhi directs, writes the music and plays the lead. That was true of the first film too.
Music carrying the film
The 2017 original worked largely because of its songs, and a story about a singer raises that stake considerably.
A period setting
The 1980s, which is new ground for this series.
A real social divide as the subject
Gaana against classical music is a class argument as much as a musical one.
Yogi Babu in support
Usually a sign the film wants regular comic beats alongside the drama.

๐Ÿ‘ Likely for you if

  • โ€ขAnyone who liked Meesaya Murukku (2017)
  • โ€ขHip Hop Tamizha fans, particularly for the songs
  • โ€ขMusic-driven stories with an underdog at the centre
  • โ€ขViewers who want a period setting rather than present-day Chennai

๐Ÿ‘Ž Probably not if

  • โ€ขThe first film did not work for you โ€” this has the same voice behind it
  • โ€ขYou want a musical drama played straight, without comedy running through it
  • โ€ขYou would rather wait for streaming, which has not been announced
