What it is about
Soori plays Muthukaali, a champion traditional boat racer who has stepped away from the sport. He comes back to train a crew of fishermen for a festival race, and has to face his old rival Sattapuli, played by Suhas.
Sathyaraj plays the mentor to both men, which sets up the usual shape of this kind of story — two rivals formed by the same teacher.
The setting is the draw. Traditional boat racing is a real coastal sport with a serious following, and it has barely been put on screen. That gives the film something most sports dramas do not have, which is a subject the audience has not already seen filmed twenty times.
