Hi โ Review
A likeable, easy-going romance that runs on its two leads rather than its script.
Our reading of 3 published reviews, ranging from 2.25 to 3.75 out of 5.
Hi is pleasant and forgettable in about equal measure. Critics are unusually far apart for such a light film, from 2.25 to 3.75 out of 5. The disagreement is almost entirely about whether "familiar" feels comforting or tired.
Nayanthara and Kavin are easy to watch together and the comedy works more often than not. What nobody defends is the plot, which follows the romantic comedy template step by step without adding much of its own.

The scorecard
Story & Screenplay
2/5Predictable on purpose, and predictable in the ways that hurt it.
The romance follows a well-worn path. Reviewers who disliked the film called it dated and predictable rather than badly made. You will know where it is going early, and the film does little to surprise you.
The bigger problem is emotional weight. Several critics felt the script has not earned its later moments, so the scenes meant to hit hardest are the ones that land softest.
Direction
2.5/5Vishnu Edavan keeps it light and does not push much further.
The direction is simple and comfortable, keeping a light tone and a steady pace. On that level it works. The film is never unpleasant to sit through.
What it lacks is a point of view. The staging does the job without ever being distinctive, and in a crowded genre that is the difference between a film people remember and one they enjoy and forget.
Acting
3.5/5The leads are the whole reason to watch, and they deliver.
Nayanthara and Kavin have real chemistry and carry long stretches on charm alone. Even the least favourable reviews credit the performances while criticising everything around them.
The senior cast โ K. Bhagyaraj, Radhika Sarathkumar and Prabhu โ gives the family scenes more weight than the writing provides. VTV Ganesh handles much of the comedy.
Camera & Visuals
3/5Bright, clean and commercial. Nothing here is trying to surprise you.
The film is shot in the glossy, well-lit style the genre expects, with attractive locations and an unhurried rhythm. It looks like exactly what it is.
No critic discussed the look at any length, good or bad. The camerawork does its job and stays out of the way.
Audience Reaction
3/5Early reaction is warmer than the professional reviews.
Reaction on social media on release day was positive, with the comedy and the pairing getting the most praise. Audiences seem to be judging it as an easy watch, which is a fairer test for this kind of film.
Worth noting: this review is published on release day. The first weekend will tell us much more, and we will update this page as fuller information comes in.
